"Compromise becomes the hormone of oppression."
Harry Belafonte

Everyone knows why I can't shop at Walmart (guns, censorship and the refusal to carry emergency contraception in their pharmacies).

That last reason actually changed recently, and Walmart has agreed to carry it in their pharmacies but still support a pharmacist's right to choose (haha the irony has me loling) not to fill those prescriptions and to refer the customer to another pharmacy.

Unfortunately, I recently learned that Target does not have a policy regarding the fulfillment of prescriptions without discrimination or delay.

While "surfing the web," I came across a post on feministing.com by a user named Christy who had this to say:
"Since we're allowing so many people to be able to choose not to do things that they think are objectionable in their jobs, why don't we include postal workers? Then they can choose not to deliver Playboys and Hustlers to their recipients."

Should I become vegan and refuse to sell leather shoes? This quite trivializes the issue, seeing as how emergency contraception deals with life changing events such as rape and potentially unplanned pregnancies, which makes it all the more important that pharmacists must sell products their employers carry. I don't care if Walmart carries PlanB or not. Well, I do, because for millions of people, Walmarts are the only pharmacies for hundreds of miles, leaving them no other choice. But I digress; Walmart's conquering of smaller/independent businesses is a whole other entry. If a company does not want to carry a product, fine. I'll boycott you, depending on the product. Or I'll patronize, if you're refusing to sell a product such as guns.

If you dont believe in something your employer is doing/carrying/etc., guess what? Don't work for them. What's that you say? Walmart is the only pharmacy for hundreds of miles, and you are deeply in debt due to your extensive student loans that put you through pharm school and you need this job to survive? Well, that girl that just walked in was having sex with her boyfriend when the condom broke, or even worse, he took it off unbeknownst to her, or worse yet, she was just raped, and Walmart is the only pharmacy for hundreds of miles! She needs that PlanB in order to live her life the way she wants the same way you need your job in order to live live your life the way you want. Go back to school, become a doctor, and refuse to prescribe PlanB. See if igiveafuck.

On a brighter note, I did learn that K-Mart has said it will fire any pharmacist who refuses to dispense any FDA-approved medication. And anyone who's ever seen Bowling for Columbine knows that they (at the very least) no longer sell bullets.

And I bought my kelly clarkson cd there (and am choosing to avoid the discussion that could come about regarding the purchase of a product from an artist who is a consequence of pop culture).

Kmart is my new favorite place. Cheap jewelry and Jaclyn Smith, here I come!

this is basically a collection of open-ended essays, with the occasional life update. i'm never done with something i'm writing about, just letting it rest until i have something new to say. comments are appreciated, hit up the book above.

Loves
fun, music, spending money i don't have, dying my hair, smoking, drinking, wearing pajamas at all hours of the day

Hates
gun toting, flag waving men who are forgetting about my freedom as a woman.
